Overview
Reliance IITM Centre of Excellence (RITCOE), at IIT Madras, Chennai, came into existence on 15th February 2008 with the signing of a tri-partite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Department of Telecommunication, Government of India, Indian Institute of Technology Madras and Reliance Communications Ltd. at IIT Madras.
IIT Madras at Chennai, established in 1959, is a premier academic institute which provides world-class education and research facilities in engineering and technology. It is officially recognized as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India. IIT Madras has contributed immensely to the cause of nation building and its faculty members and alumni have distinguished themselves in their fields of expertise.
Reliance Communications Ltd., the principle sponsor of RITCOE, is the second largest wireless telecom service provider in India. This fast growing telecom company, with its reliable, high-capacity, integrated and convergent digital network offers a wide range of high-class telecom services in the country.
RITCOE and other TCOEs have been created to meet the broad objectives of capacity building, impetus to all round growth of Telecom industry including manufacturing through Application Research and to serve as think tank to the Government and Industry decision makers.
