Research Projects

Short Term Projects

  • SMS Analysis and Social Networking
    • Mobile Social Networking over data and SMS Networks
  • FRACTEL Campus Wireless Testbed
    • Multihop TDMA mesh networks. Setting up of a wireless testbed with long/medium distance links. Development and demonstration of a working wireless system with desired QoS capabilities.
  • High Speed Node Architecture
    • Development of a high speed ethernet + optical solution geared especially for the Indian market taking Indian conditions, market needs and future prospects into consideration
  • Rural Education Application (REAP) and Information Dissemination for Rural Areas (InDRA)
    • The project was formally closed, and handover CD with documentation and software was given to both TTSL and TCS.

Medium Term Projects

  • Cellular Backhaul
    • A cost effective and flexible cellular backhaul solution to provide a wired or wireless uplink. With 3G migrations around the corner, this will provide a migration path from TDM to pure packet networks.
  • 4G Standardization
    • Contribution to 4G standardization
  • User Driven Health Care (UDHC)
    • Novel model to support Health Care informational needs over cellular networks.

Long Term Projects

  • Speech Processing Applications for Indian languages
    • Developement of methods for simple and robust keywords recognition that are language independent with minimal dependence on high level speech language.
  • WiFiRE Hardware Implementation
    • WiFi Rural Extension; Develoipment of Hardware prototypes, reduction in power dissipation during implementation and enhancing the existing WiFiRE MAC with multihop extension and mobility.
  • Video Coding, Secure Communication and Multicarrier Transmission
    • Scalable and multi-view video coding. Secure Communication and watermarking. Multitone/Multicarrier transmission.
  • Network Coding
    • Investigation of distributed source coding: Slepian-Wolf coding over real numbers, universal coding. Data fusion/aggregation, distributed coding.
